Cotton gins and presses use soft annealed baling wire to bind pressed cotton bales. A cotton bale is compressed under high pressure and exerts strong springback, so the wire must have enough strength while still knotting without snapping.

- Sufficient strength: Withstands the springback tension of cotton (350-550 MPa).
